Our Leather
We source our leather from Wickett & Craig, based out of our home state of Pennsylvania. They are one of the few tanneries still around that are using the same process your grandfather knew. They create strong, beautiful leather that will stand up to everyday abuse.
Why our bags?
In the sea of mass produced goods whose goal is to source the cheapest materials for the largest profit; Hemlock and Hyde stands out. We use the best materials we can get our hands on. Each item was designed, cut, sewn, burnished and finished by us in our Philadelphia studio. When you order from us you are supporting a small family and small business that buys domestic materials. There is no markup that goes to the middleman in traditional retail.
How did we get started?
It all happened by chance. A friend of ours came upon some leather headed for the landfill. We had never worked in leather but were very interested to see what it had to offer. After sketching out ideas and making a few items, we fell in love with the material. It's hardy, timeless and unforgiving. That started us on the search for vegetable tanned leather.
